Hello everyone,
My name is Missmamawork and I am the creator of this project.
I am born and raised in the Netherlands and I consider myself a part-time artist (especially in this economy).
Every now and then I start a project that I put all my heart in and I hope you find as much pleasure finding all the hints and puzzling out the story as I had making it all.
Here are some answers to questions you might have.
Why did you make this project?
Dutch myths and fairytales are very much unknown. Even a lot of Dutch people have forgotten we have our own mythological creatures. I always had a weak spot for these kind of stories, but I mainly knew about the international stories. Greek and Roman myths or Nordic stories that are told over and over again. When I found out we (Dutch people) actually had our own stories, I was a bit surprised. And I feel the Dutch folklore and myths are disappearing from our memories fast. With this project I wanted to give a bit more public knowledge to Dutch mythological creatures and folk tales.
A big source of inspiration is Abe de verteller who has collected a lot of Dutch fairytales and mythical creatures. Not every creature had a picture or even a clear description (I can't even find anything on Google) and I had to use my own imagination to make an image for the creature. And I made some of the creatures up myself.
I also wanted to try my hand at making puzzles. Using pictures or cyphers to make you think. And so I thought up this specific project.
What kind of puzzles did you use?
I do not know any coding so I am using things I can do myself. The different cyphers/puzzles I use in this project are:
- Using Dutch instead of English (I know this is not a conventional puzzle, but I wanted to use Dutch to create a more authentic feel)
- Shorthand (I let you find out which one)
- Morse code, both visual and audio
- Hiding words/sentences in pictures or videos
- Writing in a font I made myself (some letters are missing, spelling mistakes are mostly on purpose)
- Hidden links to hidden pages
- Mixing up the order of the pages/videos
Keep a look out for these puzzles.
Who is the person in the pictures? Is she real?
Yes the person is real. It is me from 10 + years ago. I figured I changed so much it would take people a while before they recognized me. I was thinking of using a fake person using ai, but I felt uncomfortable making a picture from other people's faces.
Which media sources are used for this project?
I had a lot of ideas using multiple social media and even real life places for this project. However, due to some real life events I decided to limit the use of different media. This blog and youtube are the main media sources used for this project.
There is a reddit page too if you want to discuss about this project.
Why is there no music with the songs?
This project started out as an idea of making many videos with my own songs and making my own music. I will publish them in time ( I am still not finished with the project). However, I forgot one thing: One of the things I simply cannot do is make music. It is not in my capacity to make music of any kind. I did write the lyrics and sung the songs myself. I tried to make any music for the songs, but all was not suited. And I felt the same about ai music that I feel about all ai art.
I now consider the songs to be long forgotten songs from the world, which the person singing filled with her own lyrics and she is singing these songs to herself or the viewer.
Any music and sound effects used in this project is from the youtube audio library
How many people are working on this project?
Only 1, it is me. The project is a personal piece that I carry close at heart.
Right now there are no open positions.
Can I make fanart/use the world/videos about this?
Yes you can. I would love to see/hear what you have made.
I do ask you to respect the source material. The project is about myths and legends from the Netherlands, but also has some real life heavy subjects. Be respectful.
If you like my art, I made some non-canon art here
I also made a list of difficult to pronounce words. A lot of them are made up, but based on Dutch sounds. You can find the list here.
What heavy subjects are used in the project?
I don't want to give spoilers, but I do realise some subjects in the story might be triggering.
The following subjects can be triggering:
- Talking about cults and cult behaviour
- (light) Swearing
- Physical abuse
- Abduction
- Bugs
If you see anything I have missed or if you have another question, you can ask them here below.
Have fun!
